How it all started
Kamerie Gibson, a proud alumna of Dorsey High School, always felt a calling to give back to the place that helped shape her. As she gained knowledge and insight through college and life experiences, she realized that if students at Dorsey were exposed to that wisdom earlier, they could be even further ahead in their journeys.
In 2021, Kamerie reached out to Coach Dave—a longtime mentor and supporter—and asked how she could put on a presentation for Black History Month. With his help, and the support of the principal and administration, her vision was approved.
In February 2022, Pave Your Own Lane officially launched with its first annual Black History Month presentation. Now in its fourth year, the event has grown tremendously, inspiring the development of three distinct components: a full program curriculum, hands-on workshops, and one-day intensives. What started as a heartfelt effort to give back has evolved into a transformative movement that continues to impact students and communities across South Los Angeles.

Pave Your Own Lane – February 2025
The February 2025 Pave Your Own Lane event focused on the theme “Live a Life You Can Be Proud Of,” inspired by the legacies of Nipsey Hussle and Frederick Douglass. A panel of leaders, entrepreneurs, and creators shared their stories and advice on overcoming challenges and building meaningful, purpose-driven lives.
The event motivated Black and Latino youth to embrace their potential and take bold steps toward personal and community success, continuing the program’s mission to empower the next generation.
Pave Your Own Lane – February 2024

The exhibitions showcase a curated selection of photographs that tell compelling stories from various corners of the globe, each image accompanied by detailed narratives that provide context and deeper insight into the historical significance of the scenes depicted. These photographs are drawn from the archives of renowned photographers, as well as emerging talents, ensuring a blend of both classical and contemporary perspectives.
